will it protect my wooden window shutters if I silicon polish over the paint?

I have just painted all of them and I would rather not do it again for a few years! Around here the shutter paint is damaged more by the strong sun than cold weather.
thanks g.o.d. I had noticed that some colour cars do not rust as much as others, in particular brown or yellow Minis. Your comment about different pigments explains it.

Answer:
On metal I have had good luck with so called "once a year car polishes"I didn't have to repaint for ten years.Wood I have not tried and would guess that the results might be different.White paint tends to become damaged more easily this has to do with the fact that some pigments (colorants) make stronger paint films than others.Brown colors in house paints tend to be made with synthetic iron oxide .These pigments make very strong paint films. You might try something other than paint;colored
silicone sealant spread thinly? Might work.***To diva ---I've got silicone that's been outside practically unchanged for almost 30 years. And it's white .Keep in mind I said COLORED silicone and when you try something new it's a good idea to test it on scrap material first.Everybody knows that.Anyways it's too late now for these shutters but most wood items outdoors should be stained it's easier and doesn't peel and preserves the wood.
