Cat owners - anyone have wooden window blinds? Are they better then plastic or aluminum?
I am wanting to replace my old aluminum blinds as they are pretty beaten up. I am thinking wooden ones would stand up to cats better but my fiance says they are more expensive (which I already knew) and won't hold up any better .... who is right? lol
Answer: I had some lightweight wooden blinds that one cat snapped while trying to get through to look out the window. I have gone with the heavier wooden blinds since. The miniblinds are ok but they do bend and stay bent.
Home Depot has ready made blinds that I used for a rental. You can get the wooden ones cut to order while you wait and then remove the extra slats when you install them. They are very inexpensive and surprisingly heavy and nice. I think they were only about $75 for a fairly large window.
It helps to install them as far forward in the window as possible. That way there is no ledge for a cat to jump up on unless that is what you want.
They also come with cleats to tie up the cords. Those things are really dangerous around cats.
