i hired workers to sandpaper my wooden windows. they did half the job(not stripped the old varnish) big fight?

so i big fight ensued because i told them if they don't totally remove the old vanirsh and repaint over the old varnish it looks like brown jam, an awful job and i yelled to them that they had to do it right. they started yelling back and i said i'm calling the police, this is my house you either do the job right or get lost!!! this is the 2nd time it happens. they said this is not doable. so i take a sandpaper in front of them i do a portion of the windowshill and it comes out perfect! they see it and come and pretend to help me do it right and after 10' they say it's ok now we put on the varnish and i say no way; if you can't do the job i amfinishing alone and they say 'give us our money and get lost'. and i say if you think i am a young woman you can scam me you get lost and you see no money from me bc i am not sucker!!! they act offended and isay if you got an ego you better do a perfect job. it's either their way or my way! what do i do?
well they said if they had to completely remove the old vanish they wanted 300 each window

Answer:
Just sounds like a miscommunication to me. You are really heated about this. Basically in construction work you have a contract stating everything you want done and if you are picky then make the contract state your pickiness. In the end the customer has the final say because if the work is not completed as stated in the contract you dont have to pay. Now if the contract is for new floors and trim and the floors look great but the trim sucks you have to pay for the floors but you can dispute the trim. There are requirements for construction work. Court rooms see this stuff all the time.

You should of signed a contract stating all you orders for the work. Good work is hard to find in this business. Sounds like you just picked up the yellow pages and dialed, because if you stated what you wanted and they still huckle bucked you then obviously the company is crappy which means a friend wouldnt of referred them. Next time ask for referrals and actually go to those houses and look at thier work.
