How do you repair a hole in a wooden door?

The hole is on the bottom of my closet door where the nail and dowl used to be. The wood surrounding this area collapsed and slightly split it due to the weight of the closet door. I need a filler strong enough to hold the weight of the door but pliable enough so I can rescrew the nail and dowl into it. Is this even possible or do I have to buy a new door altogether?

Answer:
Not sure I understand the question but have you tried that foam insulation stuff? Great Stuff I think it*s called.
Fill the door with that and then put some kind of a vinyl tile or plastic square design over it. I had a hole where my doorknob fell off and pulled some of the wood with it.
I managed to find a design to put over the hole and paint it gold; Looks like it is part of the door.
