Can I use waterbased paint to paint wooden doors?

I want to paint the bathroom & bedroom doors in my house, I was wondering what would be better to use, Waterbase or Oil base paint to paint the doors?

If it is ok to paint with waterbase paint, how would the paint be affected by steam from the shower and water splashing on it?

Answer:
Hello there,

Is this new construction? If not, you need to find if the existing paint is oil based paint or not. If it is oil based paint, you do not want to paint over it with water based paint because it will peel.

If the existing paint is an oil based paint, you're better off painting with oil based paint. Otherwise, you will need to prime all the wood work then paint with a water based latex paint. (Invest in water or oil based paint that prevents mildew as well.)

Good Luck and have fun!
