Your exterior door says a lot about you – it helps to create a first impression of your house and you as your guests will have plenty of time to inspect your door when they are standing behind it waiting for you to answer. Your house had better have a good strong door – the door serves also as the guard of your property. Therefore, your exterior door needs to be weather-resistant and properly maintained.
There are various materials – one stronger than the other – that exterior doors come in. The main doors are usually of wood (either solid wood or laminated), steel, fiberglass or vinyl.
Wooden doors are probably the most attractive ones – they are desired for their natural look. However, this door needs proper maintenance - inevitable in case of natural materials - to be able to guard your property from weather and fire.
Steel doors are no doubt the most resistant doors. A steel door is usually not made entirely of steel but of a variety of materials – wood, steel, insulation etc. Usually the inside of the door is filled with insulation and the exterior with steel. The exterior may also be covered with wood to create a more natural look.
Fiberglass or vinyl doors – these materials are very durable and also energy-efficient. These doors are also made of different materials and then covered with fiberglass or vinyl. The fiberglass is a easily handled material and may be formed to give an exterior impression of a wooden door.
